Once dissolved, the peptide is markedly less stable than the dry powder. Aqueous solutions are subject to backbone hydrolysis and to microbial growth when they are handled without sterile technique. Buffered solutions near neutral pH are common for short-term laboratory work, while acidic conditions are sometimes used to improve solubility. Analytical laboratories generally prepare working solutions fresh rather than storing them, and a residual water film left in a reopened vial can seed degradation even when the container appears dry.
Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography is the standard technique for estimating peptide purity. The result is a peak-area percentage, which describes how much of the detected material elutes as the main peak in one run. Mass spectrometry confirms the molecular mass and can reveal truncated, adducted, or otherwise modified species. Amino acid analysis or tandem mass spectrometry can address sequence fidelity when identity is in doubt. None of these measurements, taken alone, establishes that a sample is fit for any specific purpose.
Identity and purity are usually assessed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, with mass spectrometry used to confirm molecular mass and sequence information. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping may supplement these methods. Certified reference standards are scarce, and many commercial lots are sold as research chemicals without a pharmacopoeial monograph. Regulatory treatment differs by country: Selank is a registered prescription medicine in Russia, while in the European Union and the United States it is not an approved drug and may fall under research-chemical or unapproved-product frameworks.
Selank is a hydrophilic peptide and dissolves readily in water and in aqueous buffers. The lyophilised powder is typically a white to off-white solid. Because short peptides are prone to hydrolysis and oxidation, handling benefits from limiting exposure to heat, moisture and strong light. Working solutions are commonly prepared in sterile water or saline, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided to reduce aggregation and loss of activity. These practices reflect general laboratory convention rather than published stability specifications.

Tuftsin, the parent structure, is a naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide released from the Fc region of immunoglobulin G by spleen enzymes. Selank extends this four-residue sequence with three additional amino acids. The stated rationale is that the added tail slows enzymatic breakdown and may influence receptor interactions. How the full heptapeptide behaves at the molecular level is not firmly established, and proposed mechanisms often involve indirect modulation of neurotransmitter or immune signaling rather than a single defined target.
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed in Russia. Its sequence is Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, a seven-residue chain built around the natural tetrapeptide tuftsin. Researchers at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences first described the compound in the mid-1990s. The design combined the tuftsin core with an added Pro-Gly-Pro tail, a modification intended to extend the molecule's stability in biological fluids. Published work on the peptide has appeared mainly in Russian-language journals.
Clinical evidence comes mainly from small studies conducted in Russia, several of which were open-label or lacked robust blinding. Reported outcomes include lower anxiety scores, changes in attention measures, and effects on asthenic states following illness. Sample sizes are typically in the tens of participants, and independent replication outside the region is scarce. Reviews published in English generally note the limited methodological quality of the underlying trials. Whether the compound produces clinically meaningful effects under rigorous conditions remains unresolved.
Proposed mechanisms center on modulation of the GABA system, but no single molecular target has been confirmed. Rodent studies report changes in GABA-A receptor expression and in the turnover of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in several brain regions. Increases in brain-derived neurotrophic factor and its receptor have also been described after repeated administration. These findings come largely from animal models, and the degree to which they describe human neurochemistry remains an open question. The mechanism is best characterized as multi-system and not fully resolved.
Pharmacokinetic data are limited. Like most short peptides, Selank is vulnerable to plasma and tissue peptidases, and its measured half-life in circulation is short, on a minutes scale. The Pro-Gly-Pro tail slows this degradation but does not eliminate it. Intranasal administration is the route described in most reports, with absorption through the nasal mucosa and a hypothesized path into the central nervous system that avoids the blood-brain barrier. Direct measurements of human brain exposure are unavailable, so distribution claims rest on inference from animal work.
Regulatory status differs sharply by region. Selank holds a Russian marketing authorization, where it is supplied mainly as nasal drops, while authorities elsewhere have not approved it for medical use. Material sold internationally is therefore usually labeled as a research chemical rather than a medicine. Peer-reviewed publications come predominantly from Russian laboratories, and sample sizes are generally small. Whether the compound produces comparable effects under independent, well-controlled replication remains an open question that the broader literature has not settled.
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed in Russia as a structural analogue of tuftsin, a naturally occurring immunomodulatory tetrapeptide. Its sequence, Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro, keeps the tuftsin core at the N-terminus and appends a Pro-Gly-Pro tail. Researchers at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Moscow synthesized the compound during the 1990s while searching for peptides with combined anxiolytic and immunomodulatory activity. The added tail was intended to resist enzymatic cleavage and prolong the molecule's presence in circulation.
The compound has a calculated molecular weight near 751.9 daltons and carries a net positive charge at physiological pH because of its arginine residue. It dissolves freely in water and in common aqueous buffers, and typically appears as a white or off-white lyophilized powder. The amide backbone makes the molecule susceptible to peptidases, which limits oral use and favors intranasal or parenteral routes. Nomenclature in the literature varies: the substance is also described by the sequence abbreviation TP-7 and by a Russian trade designation.
== Research == From the beginning of his career Bengt Mannervik studied enzymes of glutathione metabolism, including studies of levels in different tissues, structure and catalytic activity of glutathione transferase, a purification method, a detailed review on the isoenzymes of glutathione transferase, and many others. These publications have had a major influence on the field of glutathione biochemistry. Each of those mentioned above, together with three others, had been cited more than 1000 times by the end of 2024, the first more than 5000 times, leading to an h index of 89, as calculated by Google Scholar. In all he has had nearly 600 publications, with a combined total of more than 47000 citations. His interest in glutathione transferases has continued after his retirement, for example studies of their role as efficient ketosteroid isomerases and as enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of moulting hormones in mosquitoes transmitting malaria and yellow fever. In addition to the work directed specifically at enzymes involved in glutathione metabolism and detoxication, Mannervik coauthored texts on molecular toxicology. He also studied various more general aspects of enzymology, including graphical analysis, error structure of kinetic experiments, weighting of observations, regression methods, directed enzyme evolution, and discrimination between models. Major contributions were more recently directed to the evolution of novel functions by in vitro protein evolution.
== Outpatient and home care == Today, chemotherapy is frequently given in outpatient clinics or taken at home as pills rather than during long hospital stays. It allows patients to recover in a more comfortable environment. Because of how the human body processes these medications, home care introduces unique safety needs. Chemotherapy drugs leave the patient’s system through body fluids like urine, stool, vomit, sweat, and saliva mostly during the first 24 hours to 7 days after treatment. Because these trace toxic chemicals can accidentally expose healthy family members through touch, shared surfaces or as aerosolized droplets during waste disposal, public health groups recommend basic safety habits at home. These typically include washing the patient's laundry separately, double-flushing toilets with the lid down, and having caregivers wear disposable gloves when handling body fluids. Epidemiological guidelines similarly address residential sexual intimacy and recommend basic safety habits to prevent healthy partners from absorbing the medicine, noting that because teratogenic trace elements are shed via saliva, semen, vaginal secretions and other body fluids, oncologists mandate the temporary use of barrier contraceptives and avoiding deep kissing during the drug-clearance window to prevent healthy partner exposure and avoid potential fetal complications. Consequently, family members are advised to avoid close contact or kissing if they show any signs of illness, such as a cold or cold sore, to keep the patient safe from secondary infections.
== Synthetic methods == Traditional polymers are usually consist of one repeating unit or several repeating units, arranged in random sequences. Sequence-controlled polymers are composed of different repeating units, which are arranged in an ordered manner. In order to control the sequence, various kinds of synthetic methodologies are developed.
== Research == As of June 2025, suvomipic is in phase 2 clinical trials for treatment of alopecia. Two clinical trials have been completed, including a phase 1 trial and a phase 2a trial. There were initial concerns that suvomipic might actually kill all hair follicles rather than promote hair growth, but its developers were pleased to find that this was not the case. The effectiveness data for a phase 2a trial was released in June 2025. In this preliminary trial, 31% of men with "advanced baldness" or "a higher degree of hair loss" experienced an increase in hair density of 20% or more at the 8-week follow-up point subsequent to 4 weeks of suvomipic treatment, whereas none of the men in the placebo group showed improvement. Existing hair-loss drugs like minoxidil and finasteride are said to require months to produce any visible difference. The new hair growth was described as not being vellus hair, peach fuzz, or baby hair, but as being proper and thick terminal hair, and to have grown in previously bald areas. However, Pelage Pharmaceuticals declined to share before-and-after photos, citing regulations preventing them from doing so. Moreover, the trial was a short-term study that was primarily designed to assess safety and not efficacy. A three-month open-label extension of the phase 2a trial was subsequently completed and these data will be shared in 2026.
=== Genetics === Alport syndrome is caused by mutations in COL4A3, COL4A4, and COL4A5, three of six human genes involved in basement membrane (type IV) collagen biosynthesis. Mutations in any of these genes prevent the proper production or assembly of the specialised type IV collagen '345' network which is an important structural component of basement membranes in the kidney, inner ear, and eye. It is also found in other locations, including the alveoli of the lungs. Basement membranes are thin, sheet-like structures that separate and support cells in many tissues. Type IV collagen '112' type is found in both vertebrates and invertebrates and is the major isoform in most human basement membranes. When mutations prevent the formation of 345 type IV collagen network in the glomerulus, the 112 network, which is formed in fetal development but usually replaced by 345, persists into adult life.

== Function == The main purpose of chondronectin is to allow chondrocytes and collagen II substrates to bond together. When bound, if forms a complex structure called an extracellular scaffold, which helps support the surrounding cells because of bioactive molecule diversity, which allows for chondrocytes to be anchored, mechanical forces to be bared, and maintaining physiological homeostasis. In order for chondronectin to be able to assist in binding within this complex as efficiently as possible, they must interact with a cartilage proteoglycan monomer. If there is a inhibitor that prevents synthesis of endogenous proteoglycans, along with beta-xylosides, it fully prevents chondrocytes from attaching via chondronectins. When cartilage cells attach chondronectin help keep the cells positioned close to important collagen and proteoglycan materials within the extracellular matrix. This allows the cells to support the framework by maintaining surrounding cartilage components. Without attachment, chondrocytes become less effective at preserving the tissue around them. Chondronectin keeps the cartilage framework strong enough to handle daily joint pressure. It helps cartilage deal with the stress caused by regular movement and compression. Since joints face constant wear, cell bonds must stay stable to help prevent tissue damage. This protein plays a key role in keeping cartilage durable and properly supported. Studies indicate that weak adhesive interaction inside cartilage matrix can gradually reduce the integrity to cartilage.
== Clinical significance == Mutations in the COL2A1 gene are associated with achondrogenesis, chondrodysplasia, early onset familial osteoarthritis, SED congenita, Langer–Saldino achondrogenesis, Kniest dysplasia, Stickler syndrome, and spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Strudwick type. In addition, defects in processing chondrocalcin, a calcium binding protein that is the C-propeptide of this collagen molecule, are also associated with chondrodysplasia.
Components of the ECM are produced intracellularly by resident cells and secreted into the ECM via exocytosis. Once secreted, they then aggregate with the existing matrix. The ECM is composed of an interlocking mesh of fibrous proteins and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs).
== Gadolinium-153 == Gadolinium-153 has a half-life of 240.6 days and emits gamma radiation with strong peaks at 41 keV and 102 keV. It is used as a gamma ray source for X-ray absorptiometry and fluorescence, for bone density gauges for osteoporosis screening, and for radiometric profiling in the Lixiscope portable x-ray imaging system, also known as the Lixi Profiler. In nuclear medicine, it serves to calibrate the equipment needed like single-photon emission computed tomography systems (SPECT) to make x-rays. It ensures that the machines work correctly to produce images of radioisotope distribution inside the patient. This isotope is produced in a nuclear reactor from europium or enriched gadolinium. It can also detect the loss of calcium in the hip and back bones, allowing the ability to diagnose osteoporosis.
Inhalable insulin is a powdered form of insulin, delivered with an inhaler into the lungs where it is absorbed. In general, inhaled insulins have been more rapidly absorbed than subcutaneous injected insulin, with faster peak concentration in serum and more rapid metabolism. Exubera, developed by Inhale Therapeutics (later named Nektar Therapeutics), became the first inhaled insulin product to be marketed, in 2006 by Pfizer, but poor sales led Pfizer to withdraw it in 2007. Afrezza, a monomeric inhaled, ultra rapid-acting insulin developed by Mannkind, was approved by the FDA in 2014 and is the only inhaled insulin commercialized at the moment.

Amino acids are a key nutrient in ecosystems. Some are essential to animals, meaning that these organisms cannot synthesize them de novo. Instead, animals rely on their diet to acquire these molecules, creating strong interdependencies between animals and organisms with complete amino acid synthesis capabilities. In a study of bacteria and archaea at Antarctica's McMurdo Dry Valleys, the distribution of 13C between their amino acids reflected the biosynthetic pathways employed by these organisms. Autotrophs and heterotrophs had distinct isotopic fingerprints, as did organisms that employed alternatives to the citric acid cycle to ferment or produce acetate. Plants, fungi, and bacteria are also distinguishable by their amino acid carbon isotopes. The compositions of the essential amino acids, which have more complex biosynthetic pathways, are particularly informative. Lysine, isoleucine, leucine, threonine, and valine all had significantly different δ13C values between at least two of these groups. The fungi and bacteria in this study were grown on amino acid-free media to ensure that all the amino acids were synthesized by the organisms of interest. Bacteria and fungi can also scavenge amino acids from the environment, complicating the interpretation of data from field samples. Nevertheless, researchers have successfully used these differences to identify the sources of amino acids in food webs. Terrestrial and marine producers in a mangrove forest had different patterns of 13C enrichment in their amino acids.
where ∆(APB) is the area of triangle APB. Denote the segments that the diagonal intersection P divides diagonal AC into as AP = p1 and PC = p2, and similarly P divides diagonal BD into segments BP = q1 and PD = q2. Then the quadrilateral is tangential if and only if any one of the following equalities are true:
An infusion set is used with devices such as an insulin pump. The purpose of an infusion set is to deliver insulin under the skin, fulfilling a similar function like an intravenous line. It is a complete tubing system to connect an insulin pump to the pump user and as such includes a subcutaneous cannula, adhesive mount, quick-disconnect, and a pump cartridge connector. There are several types, styles, and sizes of infusion sets available, varying in cannula length, entry angle and in the length of tube connecting the cannula to the pump. The kind of choice of these options depends on a variety of factors, such as the patient's body fat percentage.
This leads to a reduction in the newly synthesized pool of dopamine from replenished tyrosine. AMPT’s effect on dopamine concentration and transport is reversible and short-lived. If methamphetamine is administered while cytoplasmic dopamine is depleted to about 50% of the control levels, its neurotoxic effects are averted (Thomas et al., 2008). The recovery of dopamine to normal levels after AMPT administration takes about 2 to 7 days, and this repletion of dopamine is not changed by methamphetamine. For these reasons AMPT seems to be a better treatment drug in methamphetamine addicts than reserpine, which is also being researched as a possible methamphetamine treatment drug. Reserpine causes almost full loss of dopamine from the striatum by disrupting vesicle storage. The repletion of dopamine after reserpine administration is slower than AMPT. Additionally, administration of reserpine when dopamine is maximally depleted causes neurotoxic effects, which does not occur with AMPT treatment. AMPT’s role in addiction has also been studied via changes in dopamine binding to D2 and D3 receptors in the striatum (caudate, putamen, and ventral striatum) after the administration of AMPT. Findings revealed that cocaine-dependent subjects exhibited lower levels of endogenous dopamine relative to healthy subjects after AMPT administration. Similar positive effects were found in the role of AMPT in methamphetamine-addicted subjects. Dystonias and dyskinesias onset seems to derive from inconsistent regulation of dopamine in dopamine pathways.
Valve was founded in Kirkland, Washington in 1996 by the former Microsoft employees Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington. For their first product, Valve settled on a concept for a horror first-person shooter (FPS) game. They did not want to build their own game engine, as this would have created too much work for a small team and Newell planned to innovate in different areas. Instead, Valve licensed the Quake engine and the Quake II engine from id Software and combined them with their own code. Newell estimated that around 75% of the final engine code was by Valve. As the project expanded, Valve cancelled development of a fantasy role-playing game, Prospero, and the Prospero team joined the Half-Life project. Half-Life was inspired by the FPS games Doom (1993) and Quake (1996), Stephen King's 1980 novella The Mist, and a 1963 episode of The Outer Limits titled "The Borderland". According to the designer Harry Teasley, Doom was a major influence and the team wanted Half-Life to "scare you like Doom did". The project had the working title Quiver, after the Arrowhead military base from The Mist. The name Half-Life was chosen because it was evocative of the theme, not clichéd, and had a corresponding visual symbol: the Greek letter λ (lower-case lambda), which represents the decay constant in the half-life equation. According to the designer Brett Johnson, the level design was inspired by environments in the manga series Akira.

Sealed, desiccated storage at -20 °C or colder is the standard recommendation for research-grade material. Vials should reach room temperature before they are opened, which limits condensation. Repeated temperature cycling is discouraged.
A reported purity value reflects the share of the main peak in one chromatographic run and says nothing about identity. Confirming that the expected sequence is present requires a separate measurement such as mass spectrometry. Purity and identity are distinct questions.
A mass spectrum reports the molecular masses present in a sample and shows whether they match the value expected for selank, near 751.9 Da. It also flags common artifacts such as truncation or adduct formation. It does not establish correct stereochemistry or complete sequence order on its own.
Dry powder is normally held at -20 degrees Celsius or below in a sealed, light-protected container with desiccant. Brief room-temperature handling during weighing is generally tolerated. Storage instructions vary between suppliers, so the accompanying certificate of analysis should be followed.
